Carateu was founded by Raiha Buchanan and David Hansson to bring a calmer, clearer and more trustworthy way to buy certified diamonds and fine jewellery in Europe.
We combine gemological expertise with experience building regulated businesses to create a better experience for our clients.

Who we are
Raiha Buchanan is a trained gemologist with expertise in diamonds, quality assessment and the global supply chain. She completed her gemological studies in Surat, India, one of the world’s leading diamond centres. She holds qualifications from IGI and GIA, and is a member of Gem-A.
David Hansson holds a jewellery design qualification from IGI and brings extensive experience in developing businesses, operations and customer-focused services.
Before founding Carateu, Raiha and David spent more than a decade building and scaling companies across fintech and financial infrastructure.
They created Carateu as a modern European diamond and fine jewellery house, combining gemological expertise, considered design and personal service.
